Possible to play HD video on a non HD device?

Okay, so i tried uploading HD video from my camcorder( HDC-TM700) onto a computer (Mac) but it didn't read it because i guess it didn't have some kind of HD writer. So i was wondering if i import the HD video into an editing program then "make movie" from there into a flash drive, will it be possible then to play the video on a computer or other device that's non-HD?
