Good entry HD camcorder for Special Effects?

Hi, I really wanted to get into editing movies with after effects. I've been shooting video with my iphone 3gs, it's not really the best quality. I'm looking for a camcorder that records in at least 720p at a fast speed. I figured sacrifice quality for smoothness. I was looking at the panasonic hdc-sd60k. It's probably not as fast as I want for slow motion captures, but it's what every website's telling me. Should I get the panasonic, or is there another choice that's good for editing? Thanks.
