Buy wedding present for a wedding I will not attend?

You should have just enclosed a check when you sent back the response card. For my wedding most guests who didn't attend just sent back a check. Others did order gifts off my registry lists and had them sent to my house instead, and there were a few who didn't send gifts at all but it's no skin off my nose, I was happy either way whether they came or not.
