Is taking Pravastatin okay to take for short term until I se a heart specialist?

when I got my mamogram I was told the walls of my heart had enlarged and I then had the stress test done with having the exrays with dye. My primary doctor told me there are a few areas that show blockage but now needs to get authorization from my insurance Co. to see a heart specialist. I am always tired and more frequently I am feeling pressure in my chest and sometimes pain, until I see the heart specialist I was told I should take this medicine. I would like to know if it makes any difference or not my taking this medicine while I am waiting?
