What to do after no contact rule?

My ex and I broke up 6 months ago and I immediately went into the no contact rule. I haven't spoken to him since then but he contacted me and congratulated me on graduating college. We spoke a bit and he was curious to see how I was doing, after the conversation ended I suggested we remain in contact and he agreed. I really miss him and want him back but he has a job in a different city so I won't be running into him any time soon. What should I do now? He ended it with me first but I have been really good with the no contact since this is what I heard is best to get your ex back. Thanks in advance guys.
